Chateaux de Versailles.
One the greatest achievement of French art. From Louis XIII’s humble hunting lodge, the Chateaux became the headquarters of the French Royal Court upon Louis XIV’s ascension to the throne. This was also the home to the infamous french monarch, Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette. It is in this palace where Marie Antoinette tried to escape the revolting French but all was in vain.
The entrance to the Chateaux is quiet expensive considering what you will see. Not all rooms are open. The highlight of the visit is the Galerie de Glaces, or the Hall of Mirrors. As the name suggests the walls of these room are lined with mirrors. Nothing is left without decoration, the ceiling, the windows, lamps, are filled with gold leaf. Another highlight of the visit is the King’s Grand Apartments as well as the Queen’s Chamber.
It is just unfortunate not to see how the monarchs really lived. Since the place is flocked by tourists, most of the furniture are removed from the rooms, the kitchen, the toilets are not shown, their is no trace of the boudoir or the dressing room. And there are no clothes exhibited!
But still, this place is enchanting. It’s a place that reminds you that not all that glitters is gold and that somethings do not last forever.
ps. i just had to include that shot of paris. its just amazing.
