FIRST OUT OF FRANCE TRIP!!!

Brugge/Bruges a little town in Belgium that is surrounded by canals much like Amsterdam. This quaint little town is favorite of tourists for its really cheap braderies (flea markets) and shops. Since it is in Belgium, buying chocolate here is also a must. So, here are the highlights of my visit to Brugge.

When in Brugge, try their specialty, baked mussels with cheese and fries. The mussels au gratin was just heavenly. Also, try to be adventurous. For our dinner I ordered a traditional Flemish dish, rabbit cooked in a tomato-like sauce with a hint of red wine. Yes, rabbits are commonly eaten in this part of the world and tastes surprisingly like chicken.

Brugge as town is really homey and laidback. There are few people out at night and almost everyone is on a bike to go around the place which is really cool and environmental friendly. But this little town was once a center of trade and commerce back in the Middle Ages. Also, the town is a influential part of the Crusades because it is here that you can find the True Blood of Jesus Christ preserved in a vial. Also, a small chapel here has a pieces of the cross of Christ.

On the arts, Brugge architecture is very Gothic, bricks are common everywhere and houses are typical of those of what Amsterdam also have. Although, relatively simple compared to other European countries, Brugge prides itself for having one of the few sculptures of Michelangelo, the Madonna and Child. It is said to be one of the few pieces of sculpture of Michelangelo outside of Italy.

I must say that my visit to Brugge was not complete and nakakabitin. I do hope to come back here sometime and enjoy how the quiet and tranquility of the place.

P.S. there is an second hand shop in Brugge that sells all kinds of stuff! I got a nice cardigan for 4 euros there.
